Before touching a wall, you need a plan. A licensed surveyor sets exact boundaries and levels, a structural engineer approves the load calculations, and an architect turns the idea into a plan you can actually build from. This stage prevents the truly expensive mistakes — the ones discovered after the frame is already standing.

This is where the structure takes shape: foundations, columns, ceilings and walls. An experienced shell contractor works from the engineer's plans and insists on precise casting and proper curing times. The quality of the shell determines the strength of the house for decades — this is not the stage to cut corners on.

Before the walls are closed up, everything that runs inside them goes in: electrical, plumbing, air conditioning and solar systems. Good coordination between the professionals at this stage saves needless wall-chiseling and painful repairs later. Make sure every power and water point is marked on the plan before the plaster goes on.

A beautiful wall starts long before the paint. Plaster repairs and skim coating level the surface, primer bonds the paint to the wall — and only then comes the painting itself, indoors, outdoors or in colored textured plaster. The investment in prep is the difference between paint that lasts a year and paint that lasts a decade.

The finishing stage turns a shell into a home: tiling, drywall work, waterproofing and the finishing contractor's final touches. This is where the finish you see every day is decided — straight grout lines, clean corners and exact levels. Agree on the order the professionals come in ahead of time, so no one ruins the work of the person before them.

Now come the elements that complete the home: kitchen, cabinets, interior doors, aluminum windows and shutters. Measure only after the flooring is done — carpentry and aluminum orders are made to final dimensions only. Factor in lead times: custom-made items take several weeks.

Every renovation ends with a pile: construction waste, packaging and junk. Orderly removal to a container or truck leaves the site clean and safe, and saves you fines for illegal dumping. Book the removal in advance — don't leave it for the last day.
